When You Are Ready for Change

You do not need a breaking point to begin couples counseling. Most of the time, it starts with a growing awareness that something feels off, or that your relationship could feel better than it does right now.

It can feel exhausting to stay in cycles of miscommunication, distance, or tension. You may find yourselves having the same conversations without resolution, or feeling misunderstood even when you are trying to connect. Trust may feel shaken, or the closeness you once had may feel harder to access.

For some, it shows up as conflict that escalates quickly or never fully resolves. For others, it is a quiet disconnection that builds over time. Even when nothing is visibly wrong, you might feel like something is missing.

Couples counseling is a space to step out of those patterns and understand what is underneath so you can move forward with more clarity, intention, and connection.

Why Private Pay?

Why We Don’t Take Insurance

  • Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis before they’ll cover a session, and that diagnosis becomes part of your permanent medical record. We don’t think you should need a label to get support.

  • No diagnosis code, no session notes, nothing about what you’re working through gets sent to a third party.

  • Insurance decides how often you can meet and sometimes which therapist you’re allowed to see. Private pay means it’s you and your therapist deciding what you need, for as long as you need it.

  • Therapists who bill insurance often carry thirty or more clients to make the math work. Ours don’t. That’s part of how we’re able to respond quickly and be available when something comes up between sessions.

We provide a superbill for every session so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan offers it.

One exception: we’re in-network with Wellfleet Student Insurance, available only to NYU students. If that’s your plan, your sessions may be covered directly rather than through a superbill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sessions are conversational but intentional. You will meet together with your therapist to explore what is coming up in your relationship, look at patterns over time, and learn tools that help you communicate more clearly and feel more grounded with each other. Sessions are 50 minutes and evolve with you.

No. Many couples begin therapy with a general sense that something feels off or could feel better. You do not need a crisis to benefit from having a space to understand and strengthen your relationship.

Couples counseling can create meaningful change when both partners are open to the process. It is an opportunity to repair trust, rebuild intimacy, and improve the overall quality of your connection.

It is common for partners to come in with different perspectives. Therapy creates a space where both of you can feel heard and understood while working toward a shared direction.

Yes, but not overnight. Therapy is a process. With consistency, most clients notice meaningful shifts in how they think, feel, and show up in their lives.
