Julia Flatto, LMSW
I am a New York state Licensed Master of Social Work and associate psychotherapist with Liben psychotherapy. I have experience working in private practice treating depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, grief, relationship and family issues. My therapeutic style is psychodynamic focusing on the impact of family upbringing and environment as influencing the way we deal with challenges and where we face difficulties. I also draw on other modalities such as internal family systems, mindfulness and imaginal exposure in working with clients.
I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is paramount to the work achieved in session and strive to create a comfortable and non-judgmental environment. I also promote a space where there is open feedback and opportunity to work through issues in ways that are personalized to each individual. I believe therapy is an important space to grapple both with large issues and also day to day life and empower us to live more in touch with ourselves.
I earned my Master of Social work from the University of Pennsylvania. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. I am currently a candidate at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy training in Psychodynamic relational therapy where I am working towards my psychoanalyst licensure over the next four years. I grew up in New York City and currently live in the city with my partner and two year old dog, Helios.
